The body design for Every Day We Fight's alien menace, later called the "Rifters" by our narrative team!
We explored a lot of looks early on, but like the more faceless looks a lot. We decided we wanted our enemies to be threatening, but not savage. Hostile certainly, but with a definite intelligence, almost grace. Thus we settled on this thin, spindly design, reminiscent of 1950's little green men, but with our own twist.
A design problem i had to solve was that, while the creative team didn't want any eyes or eyeballs on these guys, gameplay needed them to be able to sense players in a cone area. Thus the solution of the four "eye-holes". Sensory organs that detect unknown temporal waves that let our Aliens see without eyes!
